Thank You

Before we tell you of upcoming events and news we’d like to thank all the children and parents that make up The Agoge and Clever Little Monkeys: For your support of our club and our sport, and particularly the dedication you’ve shown throughout the Summer months and the move. It was really motivating for us to see you all make the trip to the new place and inspires to work harder for you.

Thank you!

Clever Little Monkeys

Our Clever Little Monkeys program will be starting off again on Monday, October 1st.

Clever Little Monkeys classes will run on Mondays & Wednesdays from 5:45-6:30. The joint Saturday class with The Agoge will still be available, since we’ve found some of the older children enjoy the challenge of training with bigger partners.

Clever Little Monkeys will be for kids aged 4-8, and focus more on the play aspect of martial arts and physical literacy. Danny, Nikita & Kirsty have proven themselves in The Agoge class and earned the respect of the older kids/teens with their training ethic. Great work guys!

If you know of anyone who’d be interested please tell them about it.

Bring a friend day

On Wednesday, October 17th, both The Agoge and Monkeys will have a bring a friend day. This is a chance to show your friends what you do and introduce them to your sport.

Dublin Open Submission Tournament

The next competition will be held in UCD on Sunday, October 14th. This competition will run from 2-5, unlike the previous ones which ran from 10am. We’re trying to get a room for registration set up for 1 o’clock so we can run the competition a bit smoother – we’ll let you know what time you need to be there as soon as we know.

Entry forms available to download here. You can bring it along with you on the day to register

Crossfit Juniors

As well as Spartan MMA and Clever Little Monkeys, we’ve been fortunate enough to gain the affiliate to Crossfit (www.crossfit.com) for Ireland.

We’ll be launching Crossfit Junior classes on Tuesday, October 16th.

What is Crossfit Juniors?
From www.crossfitkids.com

Our program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing. Healthy living requires that our kids push, pull, run, throw, climb, lift, jump, effectively and safely regardless of whether or not they play athletics. Athletics is a specialized pursuit. Our goal is to support the specialist, but reward the generalist.

The CrossFit Kids program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We’ve used our same routines for 4 year olds and elite high school athletes. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs. The needs of our second graders and our high school wrestler differ by degree not kind.

We’ve used Crossfit style workouts as part of our training with the kids so far, and these have helped us in our competition performance.

Crossift is an excellent way for children to develop all aspects of fitness, whether or not they’re involved in martial arts or any other sport.

If your children are interested in training with Crossfit we’ll be glad to train them. Children should be physically active everyday and Crossfit offers a way for them to develop strong, healthy bodies in a balanced manner.

We don’t want to put any pressure on you or your children to train with Crossfit. Progress in the Agoge/Clever Little Monkeys will in no way be determined by attendance at Crossfit Juniors.

Again, if you know of anyone who would be interested in getting fit (perhaps you’ve friends who want to do something but don’t like most sports or martial arts) please let them know.

Standing Orders

From November onwards, we’ll be collecting the tuition fees via Standing Order. Some of the children have been on SO for some time now but we’ve been lax in asking people to sign up.

A standing order means you don’t have to worry about when fees are due and we as coaches don’t need to remember who has paid. We’ve also found that when people sign up to a standing order, they’re more likely to commit to training – which means you’ll get more benefit out of it.

T-Shirts

We’ve new T-shirts for The Agoge on order. We’ve moved back to our original supplier so these T-shirts will have the same durability of the Monkeys t-shirts. T-Shirts will cost €15.

New Mats

Within a week or two, we’ll have our new mats!!! These will be like the competition mats and offer greater protection during takedowns. We’ll also have more mat space and the old mats will go against the wall.

And another thank you

To the parents: Thanks for the opportunity to coach your children and be part of their education. It’s the greatest honour and pleasure we have. Your faith and trust in us is truly appreciated.

To the kids: You are the future of this sport and your enthusiasm, attitude and intensity in class is inspiring. We’re exceptionally proud of the work you guys put in each week
